HHMMMMMM ~~ What to do.....

Here I sit at 6 in the morning. I have been up for over an hour because of the "lovely" birds in our backyard. Ok ~ so they may be lovely...but the NOISE they were making at 5 a.m. was not so lovely!!!

I've already had two cups of coffee (working on the third) and had a wonderful time of devotional, so now what?!??!?!?

I could clean (no), or do schoolwork (too early to think that hard), put my cats in the back yard to have birds for breakfast (enabling me to go back to sleep), or get dressed and go to Wal-Mart. Yep, Wal-Mart wins!!!

I pray you all have a wonderful day!!!

The Wounded Heart

"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted." Isaiah 53:4

I see you sitting there. Your legs are crossed; your arms are wrapped around you; your shoulders hunch over just a little as if to protect yourself.

You pretend to be interested in the conversations going on around you, but you rarely make eye contact; and when you smile, it kind of slides out one side of your mouth. You are mostly quiet.

I know you think that no one notices. And for the most part you are probably right. People today are often time so consumed with themselves that they tend not to TRULY see those around them.

But God sees the truth, just as plainly as if you had a red light flashing on your forehead. He sees your heart -- full of hurt upon hurt, upon hurt, upon hurt. You see, He knows your heart.

He sees the pain oozing through the cracks in the wall you've built. He knows what's behind the shutters that hide your eyes and the door that is firmly shut before your heart. He knows those shutters and doors are there, not to keep people out, but to keep the pain hidden inside.

He knows that the reason they are kept so tightly closed is because you're afraid that if you ever let them open, even a crack, you might accidentally unleash a flood of pain and tears that would overwhelm you.

And you're afraid that if you ever opened those restraints you could never get them closed again and you might find out there were no answers or relief for your pain.

But there is relief, there is an answer, there is HOPE! There is a way to trade your pain for joy. There is a way to have healing for the hurts that have wounded you so deeply.

Let me ask you, have you ever been despised and rejected by those close to you? Do you have sorrow in your heart for loss after loss -- grief that doesn't seem to get better?

Jesus has made a way; and its guaranteed effective if you'll just dare to reach out to Him for it. Those aren't just words. It is a fact.

The Bible says that Jesus bore our grief and carried our sorrows (Is. 53:4). It literally means what it says. Think about it. One ordinary day, an ordinary man faced an enormous challenge. That day He was sentenced to die, though He had done no wrong. He was laid down on a wooden cross and a man with a hammer bent over him to pound spikes through His hands. What do you think He thought as He looked over at His hand and anticipated the pain coming in just a few seconds? What would you have done on that day? Would you have walked away? I would have. But Jesus didn't. And there was only one reason. His love was stronger than the pain.

But Jesus' greatest pain was still ahead. As He was lifted up on that cross, in that moment in time, God placed on His shoulders every sin that has ever been committed and all that will ever be committed throughout all of time. Jesus, who had never sinned, suddenly took on Himself the full weight, guilt and condemnation for it all. How do you think He felt about that? While He was fully God, He was fully man. He FELT the literal consequences of all that guilt. And He felt the absolute rejection of His Father for the first time in His life.

You know what else He felt? As an innocent victim of all that sin placed upon Him, He felt the pain you felt when you were hurt or rejected. He felt the pain you felt in that horrible, dark, trauma that you never talk about. He felt every single pain you feel. He LITERALLY bore your grief and carried your sorrow. And He did it to provide you with a way out of your pain.

The path He walked was not quick and easy. And the path He has for you to find healing is not a quick and easy one. But He promises to walk WITH you at every step -- and that is the whole point anyway. When Jesus said He calls us His friends, He means it.

Is Jesus literally your friend? He wants to walk with you through each day and he wants to converse with you about your hurts. You can talk to Him and ask Him questions, and He will answer back. That's why He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us. That's why He's given us His Word. He has promised that the Holy Spirit would be our counselor and lead us into all truth. All we have to do is ASK and LISTEN.

Is there hurt hidden in your heart? I know where the answers are because I've found them myself. But I can't give them to you. I can only point you to the One who wants more than anything to be your dearest FRIEND and comfort you.

Will you dare to reach out and take His hand? Can you trust Him with the secrets of your heart? Will you let Him lead you to healing one day at a time, even though you can't see the tomorrows yet? Will you trust Him when He asks you to open up the doors of your heart?

God wants to heal your wounded heart. The question is only whether you will let Him.

56 days and counting......

I’m trying to think positive about these next 56 days – so any words of encouragement you can think of (even off-the-wall or funny ones) would be greatly appreciated.

My summer classes started today. What that means is I have
56 days to complete 42 assignments. These assignments include:
8 papers of 6 pages
1 paper that is a minimum of 10 pages
1 page that is a minimum of 20 pages!!!

I am sitting here thinking.....ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?

My other thought is.....DECEMBER 13TH, DECEMBER 13TH, DECEMBER 13TH (Lord willing, that is the date I officially will have completed my Master’s Degree.)

The Spring Rain

I am not one to complain about the weather ~ but I sure have learned to appreciate it more!! We have had so little rain that it seems like I could dust the house twice a day and still need to do it again before we went to bed, so it was such a blessing o wake up to the sound of rain this morning.

It didn’t just rain though – we got rain, hail (tiny, but still hail), thunder and lightening.....and currently we are under a tornado watch. It seemed like we got A LOT of rain, so I was very surprised when the news said we got less than a ½ inch.

I can sure tell a difference though. The air is cleaner, I don’t feel like I need to dust every two hours, and everything seems so fresh.

It is amazing what a little rain can do to clean things up!!!

Hello, Again, Hello

I took a technology break......ok, not completely, but as much as possible. The last few weeks of school were a killer on me, so after they were over I just couldn’t seem to get on the computer unless absolutely necessary (like for work, since they pay me!!)

I figured I better get back in the habit though –especially since make next 2 classes start May 28th. Only 4 more to go though – 2 during summer term and 2 during fall (and one of those is more of a step by step for doing my thesis than an actual class with tests and assignments,)

I can’t believe that in about 6 months I will have written a thesis and graduate with a Master’s degree. For a while there is seems so far away and now it seems so close!!! I won’t lie, though. I can’t wait to be done and no longer be a student. I ready to drop that title from the list of “things I am.”

Now, with that said ~~ let me share devotion for the day.....

GOALS

If you aim for nothing, you'll probably hit it.

We all need to have priorities. If we don't, we sort of aimlessly wander. Without priorities or goals, we have no direction. Ever person ~ no matter how old or how young ~ needs something for which to attain.
Seriously -- what about you? What are your personal goals and priorities? There is an endless menu of available and desirable goals. It just takes the courage and determination to pick one and get started.
What about your church, are you helping your church reach their goals? Do you know what the goals of your church are? If you don’t, isn't about time that you ask?
Maybe you can be the catalyst to start a project – even a small one – and get it accomplished. If you don't have stated goals, you'll just wander through the same routines and not really advance the kingdom of Christ.
You'll repeat the Lord's Prayer, sing the same hymns, take the usual offering, and just tread spiritual water listening to sermonettes for Christianettes.
People, church is serious business - don't play around with it like it's a social club. We all see the state of our world today. We don’t need social clubs. We need churches that are out there spreading the Gospel and helping the helpless!!
Romans 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
I hope that will give you something about which to think as you establish your goals.

Doing the HAPPY DANCE

This term of school is over and couldn't be happier!!! I am so doing the Happy Dance! I don't know why, but this term just about did me in.

Now, I am celebrating!

Yesterday was my first day of freedom, so I escaped to Minot to play with my sister. I'm not quite sure when it happened, but sometime over the last 5-10 years my sister and I have become friends. I love it. We have fun together. Yesterday we had a great time doing absolutely nothing.

I took Braden with me so that Braden and Tristan could play together (OK, so 3 and 5 month old boys don't play with blocks or race their cars together.....YET....but we are preparing them for later.) While they played we just talked. That was our exciting day together. I loved it!!!!

I plan to continue my HAPPY DANCE from now until my classes start again....sometime in June. Any want to join me????

Me and My Door...

What Your Front Door Says

Who Am I???

John 1:23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

How many times throughout your life have you introduced yourself? But have you ever really thought about what you’re saying? Let me explain by example. Here are how some people in the Bible introduced themselves:

God said, "I AM WHO I AM."

Abraham said, "I am old."

Jacob said, "I am Esau your firstborn."

Moses said, "I am not eloquent."

Gideon said, "I am the least in my father's house."
Ruth said, "I am a foreigner."
Nehemiah said, "I am doing a great work."
Job said, "I am a brother of jackals."
Jesus said, "I am the door, the light, the bread, the Good Shepherd."
Paul said, "I am the chief of sinners."
How would you answer the question, "Who are you?"
When John the Baptist was asked that question, he spoke without hesitation: "I am the voice."
John was not confused and he did not stutter. He knew exactly who he was and what he was called to do. He was "the voice." His calling was to speak—to announce the coming of the kingdom of God and of the Messiah of Israel. It didn't bother John that he wasn't the Messiah. The only thing that would have bothered him was not to speak clearly. John was a satisfied man, confident and content in his knowledge of himself.
Can you say the same about yourself? Take a moment and fill in the blank: "I am ____________________."
Then decide, "How happy am I with my answer?" If you're not sure about either, ask God for His insight.

Etiquette

I have been thinking about church etiquette quite a bit – especially since Easter, when I saw things going on in church that were completely inappropriate. Today I found this article by Teddi Neevel and I thought it was just what I was looking for. It may be long ~ but it is worth the time. Tami

Is Etiquette a Thing of the Past?

I have had a couple of requests lately for a source of today's rules of proper conduct in public. Ie: Church, concert, play, etc. As I began searching on the internet I assumed this would be easy to find, however, I was wrong. There is very little about proper etiquette available today.

Then I began thinking about the rules I was taught as a child, the rules we taught our children, the annoying things that I have witnessed recently, and also the delights of being around well behaved children. I also began talking with other adults, taking my own informal survey about conduct that they witness that either offends, irritates, or conversely pleases them.
As a result of those talks I decided to take a written survey that was composed of 25 questions, some pertaining to public situations, some private small groups, others table etiquette, and a couple of general background information questions. Imagine my surprise when I tallied the results and found that some of the things that are the most annoying to me don't bother some other people at all! This caused me to re-think my standards of etiquette.
In the process of my research I found a book titled "You Can Raise a Well-Mannered Child” by Julie Hines Moore, which is published by Broadman & Holman Publishers, Nashville, TN. Although Mrs. Moore does not quote KJV scripture in her book anyone who prefers the KJV (like I do) can look the verses up in their own Bible.

Mrs. Moore has done an exceptional job of discussing most areas of etiquette and manners. In her book she breaks conduct down into age appropriateness and also looks at the various basic personality types and how the personality affects the child's ability to learn correct behavior.
There is no point in my attempting to re-write a well-written book; therefore I'm going to only address the areas of respect and public conduct. "Etiquette rules are of the head. Manners are of the heart. Together they are a shield against embarrassment." June Hines Moore. I personally love that quote. Etiquette is the rules of interpersonal conduct just as laws govern all other areas of societal conduct. Manners on the other hand are the heart determination to follow the rules because we recognize their value. We are always more comfortable socially when we know the rules.

Sadly, many Christian people have fallen into the habits and thinking of society as a whole. The idea that I can do what I want whenever I want has spilled out of the "If it feels Good Do It" and "I'm OK, You're OK" philosophies of several years ago. While many of society's standards have changed, others have not. The President is still referred to deferentially, a judge, a senator, a member of the House of Representatives, a superior officer in the military, a doctor, and usually one's employer is awarded respect by their title, by standing in their presence, by saluting, etc. God's standard of respect...of honour...of courtesy has not changed.

Let's take a look at a few of the common happenings in church today and see if we can make them fit within God's standard.

Honour toward the Lord. It saddens me to see the number of people who never bother to participate in any congregational activity, who appear bored by the preaching and are focused on their watches. To all intents and purposes, their greatest desire seems to be to get out of the church and be done with their exercise of religion.

Psalm 29:1-2 "Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness."
John 5:23 “That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him."
Respect for the Word of God. To recognize the Bible as having the answers to all of life's questions requires that we actually open the cover and read the words. Yet many people not only never bring a Bible to church with them or don't bother to open the Bible if they have brought it along. I have never seen a church lost and found table that doesn't have several Bibles sitting on it. When a scripture is announced we should turn to it and read the Word of God.

2Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

Honour the Pastor. This is an area of neglect that often lies at the feet of the preacher. Some preachers insist they be called by their first name in an attempt to be a friend of the members. Sometimes it is the fault of adults who believe themselves to be equals of the pastor. Sometimes it is smart aleck kids defying formalities. Personally, while I may introduce my pastor as Bro. Harper, when I speak to him I call him Pastor.

1Timothy 5:17 "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine."

Hebrews 13:17 "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you."

Respect for the church building, aka the house of God as opposed to uncontrolled children, failing to pickup behind ourselves, and wasting supplies. Service after service, week after week, someone walks through the sanctuary and picks up candy and gum wrappers, bulletins, offering envelopes, and scraps of paper that have been written on and left lying behind, in order for the building g to be neat for the next service. We do not worship the church building but we should respect the property as belonging to God. God has established the church as being a place we can gather to praise and worship, a place where we can serve Him. Wise stewardship includes caring for the church property with discretion. Abusing hymnals, pew Bibles, pews, and wasting printed materials all add un-necessary cost to the church budget.

Ezekiel 5:11 "Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD; Surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity."

Respect for one another. Have you noticed that is common for some church attenders to visit with someone seated nearby during special music, Scripture reading, and the offering? Children routinely sit through cartoons on television, video movies, ball games and school classes but have to leave to use the restroom or get a drink during a one hour church service. I realize that there are occasions when a physical condition may cause someone to need to leave a service during the preaching; however it is my belief that most of the time when people leave and return it is Satan causing a distraction. The point is the individual performing the music has prepared...they have practiced...and to do other than listen to them is rude.
It insults the performer and disturbs those around them who choose to listen. Likewise, the pastor has prayed about the message that God would have him deliver. He has studied and prepared. The pastor preaches the message with heart-felt concern for the eternal destiny of souls. His desire is for the Holy Spirit to bring life-changing conviction to the individuals in the congregation. Then babies begin to fuss, older children parade in and out, candy, gum and notes are passed. I wonder how large the stack of wood, hay, and stubble for judgment day's bonfire is by the time the final "Amen" is said on Sunday. I believe allowing these disruptions of the church service will have lasting effects in eternity. The rules of etiquette...courtesy enable those around us to worship, listen and grow spiritually.
Romans 12:10 "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;"

Romans 13:7 - 10 "Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."

Who then is responsible? The responsibility for raising well-mannered children is the parent's. God mandated that parents should train their children. This would be an overwhelming task if it were a curriculum to be taught but God further tells parents they are to teach by example. Just telling children what to do and how to behave, would be frustrating but we are to walk the walk. Even very young children will mimic the adults they love. Unfortunately they pick up the annoying things from their parents too.

Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 "And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."

It has been my experience that well-mannered children are a delight to be around. Children who are taught etiquette develop a self-confidence that carries them into adulthood. They have doors opened to them in education, the job market, and among their peers.

Luke 2:52 "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."

Leviticus 19:32 "Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD."

Proverbs 11:16 "A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches."

I must admit there are several things that are thought provoking. I'll mention them here for each of us to ponder.

Dressing up for a job interview, a date or a wedding but wearing play or work clothes to attend Church. Who deserves the greater respect, man or God?

Buying tickets for a Christian concert or play, and then allowing members of your group to traipse in and out during the performance. Not only aren't you getting your monies worth, but you are also cheating everyone around you that you disturb.

Being first in the pew so you can grab the aisle seat, so everyone else has to climb over you.

The never-ending race to be first out of the building or the parking lot.

Only in North Dakota

Yesterday my children played outside all afternoon in beautiful 73 degree sunshine. By the time we headed to church last night the wind had picked up and the clouds had rolled in. That lasted a couple of hours and then cleared up ~ allowing the kids to head off outside for a game of hide-n-seek in the dark, before heading to bed.
Fast forward about 4 hours ~ everyone is sleeping. The winds picks up, the thunder is booming, and the hail (although small, still hail) is hitting our roof. Once the hail stopped it poured down rain for about an hour.
Fast forward about 3 more hours ~ I get up to do my devotions. I start the coffee, open the blinds, and what do I see????? SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, there is snow on my deck and it is now 30 degrees.
See what a day can bring forth in North Dakota?!?!?!?
Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
And in North Dakota you can see all those seasons in a 24 hour period!!

The Two Cutest Babies In The World

OK - so maybe I'm a little biased ~ but aren't these two just the cutest little guys?!?!?!? Tristan (the blue jean baby) is my adorable nephew. Then there is Braden sitting next to him. Braden is my grandson (the light of my life.) I was truly blessed this winter to have these two precious boys brought into my life within 6 weeks of each other. Braden was born Dec. 5th and Tristan followed on Jan. 21st.

Doesn't that smile just make you melt?!?!?!? And, believe it or not, he's like that from the time he wakes up until the time he falls asleep. You can't help but smile back at him. I have turned him into a Grandma's boy, too.

I have always heard how being a Grandparent is so special - but those feelings just can't be put into words. Jeff and I just beam the moment he is brought into the room.
I was sitting here today thinking about this. Growing up I was my Granddad's pride and joy. And the feeling was very mutual. He meant the world to me. I loved him so much. I remember being 18 years old and still seeing my Granddad's eyes light up when I showed up. Now I think I know what he felt because that I how I feel every time I see Braden. My heart just swells. I am so thankful for the relationship I had with my Granddad ~ and am even more thankful to be able to pass that kind of relationship on with my Grandson.

Dear God,

Today, but I complain to you about my life ~
Help me think of someone who went too early to Heaven.

Before I complain about my children ~
Help me to think of someone who desires a child but they’re barren.

Before I fret about the dirty house someone didn’t help clean or sweep ~
Help me to think of the people who are living on the streets.

Before I whine about the distance I drive to work each day ~
Help me to think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

When I am tired and complain about my work ~
Help me to think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had a job.

Before I point the finger or condemn another ~
Help me remember that not one of us is without sin or blemish and we all answer to one MAKER.

And Father, when depressing thoughts try to get me down ~
Radiant your love on my face so that I may take a moment to thank you for all that you have blessed in my life.

Not the Day I Expected

I’m not sure what happened today. I went to Minot (115 miles away) for the day and something hit me as we were driving past the old radar station. I saw the house that used to be ours when we lived on Minot AFB. It was just sitting there – empty. And then the tears started flowing down my face....because tomorrow is Steven’s birthday....and we watched him grow up in that house – and now that house is empty and Steven is in Heaven.

So, here I sit, in the bathtub of all places, still crying. It’s been 9 years since Steven died, so why is this birthday so hard? Is it because he would be 21 and I have no idea what kind of a man he would be now? Is it because we went to Minot – the place he was born and raised – just before his birthday and now I’m flooded with memories? Or is it something more? I don’t know. I know that I miss him more right now more than I have in a LONG, LONG time.

I know everything happens for a reason. I really am not usually a cry baby, but for some reason this birthday hurts so much more than the last few. There’s this part of me that just wants to hug him one more time, to see him one more time, to say “I Love You” one more time.

And so I remind myself ~ we aren’t promised “one more time.” We are promised now and we need to make the most of every moment while we can. So, I can say this ~ I hug my children more, I make sure to tell them I love them more, and I thnak God for each and every moment I am blessed with them in my life. In other words, I have learned to Cherish The Moment.

Happy Birthday, Steven ~~ Mommy Loves You!!

BBRRRRRR

What happened to "Spring is in the air?" Here I am sitting on the floor with a blanket over the heater vent and a big mug of coffee ~~ because I'm freezing!!!! I know my little weather bug says it 30 OUTSIDE, but I'm so cold I'm starting to think that is the inside temperature. Maybe it was because I didn't want to crawl out from under those warm covers on my bed!!

That's okay, though ~~ I'm up, the day has started, and the temperature will only go up from here...both inside and outside.

I started one more new class yesterday. That means (not counting the two I am currently doing) I only have 4 more to go!! December 13th I will be officially GRADUATED!!!!

As I was reading my Bible this morning, I read a verse that challenged me.

"As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you." --John 15:9

WOW - could you imagine if we showed others the same kind of love the the Father showed us?!?!?!?!?

I don't know about you, but I want to try to show those around me the love the Christ showed for me when he willing gave His life for me. Easter is almost here and thoughts of Christ dying on the cross for me have been coming to me more and more over the last several days. It's nothing I ever want to take lightly.

So today, my prayer for anyone who may read this is that you know how much God loves YOU, that Christ died for YOU, and that YOU are special!!

Have a wonderful day!!!

DON'T FORGET TO SMELL THE FLOWERS

I’m just amazing at how fast time goes by. It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through March 2008. It seems like we just had our Watch Night Service at church, yet here I am preparing for Easter already.

Sometimes I feel like there isn’t enough time to do all that I think should be done. Then there are times when I feel like I am short-changing certain things – but one thing I never want to cut time on is my time with the Lord.....although I must admit that I find myself doing just that on occasion. It reminds me of Paul when he said,

Romans 7:14-17 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Today I am reminding myself ~~~ It is a new day, use it wisely, unto the Lord.

And here is my challenge to you.....take 5 minutes today to totally enjoy something God created – the sun rise, the sunset, squirrels playing in the trees, flowers, etc. Just take 5 minutes and marvel at the beauty of something.

It will bring a since of joy and peace into your heart that you can carry with you the rest of the day!!

WHY ME????

Whenever something tragic happens in our life why is it that so many people say, "why me?"

Why not the criminals? Why not the “bad” people? Why not so-n-so? What have I done? Have I committed some great sin?
I guess I’ve never been a "why me" type of person, so I don’t understand. I can’t explain it, but I just don’t feel that way. I have always thought "why not me?" I am no better or worse than anyone else.
There is a book out about why bad things happen to good people. The thing is...none of us a “good.” We are all sinners. And unless you are saved by the blood of Christ, there is nothingyou do that is good.
God does not desire that anyone be hurt or killed, but when sin entered into the world mankind fell under the same curse as the earth did.
Mankind hurting mankind along with disease, trials, and tribulations are all a part of the curse.
What about Job? Did Job deserve all that happened to him? Was God thoughtless in allowing Job to go through so much pain? Is God unfair? Absolutely not! God allowed all Job’s problems to teach Job a lesson, his wife a lesson, his miserable comforters a lesson, and He used it to teach the devil a lesson.
No matter what, God will get the glory. The devil cannot win. He may be allowed to test us, but God will never leave us nor forsake us.
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
If there is to be a test or a temptation allowed in our lives it must be for our good, the good of our loved ones, the good of our friends, but most of all to teach the devil that even if he kills us he can’t win. God will not be mocked, especially by the devil. God will get the glory.
Why does, what may seem to us, bad things happen to some people and not to others? I don’t have the answer to that. All I can do is trust that God loves me so much that He will not allow anything to happen to me that will not prove to be for good somewhere. God wants to use everything that happens to us be it good or bad as an opportunity to witness of Him.
First, we are to witness of His goodness to us in everything. As Job said:
Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

We have no idea why things happen to us. For us to try to figure it out or to get angry with God for allowing it shows we have not truly put our trust in Him. For all we know the Lord may be trying to save us from something far worse.
Isaiah 57:1 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

How could we be angry when God could be trying to protect us? No matter what the outcome in any so called tragic circumstance we must believe the Lord has our best interest in mind.
Does all this mean we won’t be concerned about what is going on in our lives? Certainly not.
The Lord tells us to fear not because fear gives the devil an inlet into our lives. The Lord knows we will have concerns and be a little apprehensive because cannot see into the future.
However, having the right attitude toward things in our lives shows we are trusting in the Lord to bring about the best for all concerned. The next time something comes our way and we are tempted to say "why me?’ let’s have a “why not me?" attitude.
No matter what, let’s trust the Lord to do what is best for all concerned. Don’t let anger or bitterness rob us of God’s blessings. Instead let’s use all we have to point others to Christ. Whether He chooses to heal us or use our circumstance in some other way we need to draw closer to the Lord.

In this way, prayerfully, others will trust the Lord to work in their lives.

Mid-Terms already

I can't believe how fast these last 8 weeks have gone. It seems like this semester just started, but now its midway through. I have one class that is only 8 weeks long, so it is done on Wednesday. I finished the major part of the final project yesterday and , Lord willing, I will finish up the rest of it today and turn it all in 2 days early!!!! That would be wonderful. Now that I've given a quick update on me.....let's talk about being late.
For me, being late is NOT being 15 minutes early. I prefer to be early for everything. That's just how I am. But there are many people who are habitually late. I mean they are late for everything. I know one lady who insists she going to even be late for her funeral!! (And I believe her.)

Are you a person who just can't seem to get someplace on time? You may be one who always arrives late no matter where you go. Here is one way to solve your problem:

1) Pick one place where you regularly go, such as church or work. (By the way - many people who don't have a problem in the world being late for church who never even consider being late for work. HHHHMMMMMM - makes you wonder, doesn't it??)

2) Clock the amount of times it takes you from the time you put on your coat until you arrive inside the building. (Let's say it takes 20 minutes)

3) Add five minutes to that time, then round it up to the closest quarter hour. (Now we're up to 25 minutes, rounded up to 30 minutes) This makes calculating your times easier.

4) Subtract that time from the starting time of church or whatever it was that you timed. (If church starts at 10 a.m., subtract the 30 minutes we just calculated - that makes the time 9:30 a.m. ) This gives you the precise time you must leave -- not one minute later.

5) You must make yourself leave at the designated time, but be prepared -- your on-time arrival may give someone a heart attack.

Too many people fail to figure in the time it takes to put on your coat, open the garage and back out of the driveway, then the time it takes to park your car and walk to the destination building. You must take all this into consideration.

It all boils down to developing a system of planning, then forcing yourself to stick to the plan.

Make a chart listing your travel times to each place where you normally go, if you need to. You can do it if you really want to. It's called self-discipline. And if you're a parent, remember, you are teaching your children to be the same way you are. If you are always late you are teaching them it is okay to always be late.

Arriving on time is Scriptural.

1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

Here Paul is giving instructions regarding church services. "decently and in order" includes arriving on time so that you don't cause a disturbance by your late arrival. Arriving late for anything is discourteous to the others who are involved. Show the Lord you care enough to be on time. It will make a difference in your service!!

I Didn't Expect to Share This Today...

Another a cold day is here upon us in North Dakota. Although, it is warmer right now (at 6:30 am) than it was when we went to bed around Midnight. When we went to bed it was -7....now we’re a 7. That’s a wonderful 14 degree improvement!!!

Sometimes you just have to take a minute and find something positive in the situation your in. It’s always there, it’s just a matter of us being willing to look for it. But that doesn’t mean we won’t ever get discouraged.

Should a Christian ever get discouraged? You would like to think it wouldn’t happen – but it does!! Becoming a Christian does not automatically convert us into super-saints who are isolated in a cocoon and protected from the cruel world around us.We are still in a real world with all its problems, and mean times we are affected by them. Then there are the times that we are our own worst enemy. We let sin into our lives that will in turn discourage us and bring us down. But there are other times when we do get discouraged by circumstances over which we have no control. It's a natural human reaction. What then is the advantage of being a Christian in discouraging circumstances?

Have you ever heard someone say, "I have no one I can talk to"?

Well, as a Christian, we need not say that. We do have someone we can talk to, and we do it in prayer. God will listen to our cry for comfort. He may even sendan angel of mercy in the form of a friend who is willing to listen. We have God’s grace and mercy surrounding us, giving us a “peace that passeth all understanding.”Remember God's promise to Joshua:

Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

August 22, 1999 was the hardest day of my life. Our 12 year old son, Steven, went home to be with the Lord that day. It was unexpected. I would have never imagined that when I said “I love you” as he walked out the door that that was going to be the last words he ever heard from me.

The one statement people made to Jeff and me for months (and still ask) is “I don’t know how you did it.” Well, we made it through by the grace of God – and nothing else. He was our strength (because we had none), our hope (because we had none of that either), and our peace. I don’t even want to imagine how our family would have handled that without Christ in our lives.

Through all of that the Scriptures were our comfort. More than I could ever list here – but the two that are still my strength are:

Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

And

Colossians 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

God gave me Colossians and told me...those are just my Words speaking to you...those are from Steven, looking down on you and waiting for the day you will be reunited.

To get discouraged is normal. To stay discouraged -- that is a problem that needs to be dealt with, and you can do it -- turn to the Lord, let Him speak to your heart and remember....there is a silver lining in every cloud.
