I'll Never Understand

As a preacher’s wife you would think that I would get used to certain things after a while, but I don’t. Every time I see someone return to the vile world that God saved them from I cringe. It literally makes me sick to my stomach. Why? After breaking free from the pain and heartache that was brought on by the live they were in, why would they go back to it?

That is something I will NEVER understand.

As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
Proverbs 26:11

Tami, I'm thinking on these things tonight. We just spent the day with old friends from Texas, on a mission trip to visit mutual friends in Tacoma. As we each asked about one old friend after another, we heard, "Oh, he lives to party now" or "She is pregnant, on drugs, and not married." These were children and teens who grew up with our kids, under Wes at the Christian school, and in my Sunday school classes. Some of them came from horrible home lives, and had managed to break free of that cycle and even begin Bible college, only to drop out and back into the world. Our hearts were heavy on the way home. Like you, I don't understand it at all. If our hearts hurt, imagine how much God's heart must hurt!
